North East constituencyMartin was born and raised in the North East of England and still lives there today, representing its three million residents as one of the region's three Members of the European Parliament.

The North East consists of Tees Valley, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, and County Durham and includes important British towns and cities such as Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Durham, Middlesbrough, South Shields, Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees, Berwick upon Tweed and Darlington.

The North East has a rich economic past, renowned the world over for shipbuilding in the industrial age. In modern times, the North East has continued as a hub of engineering and new technologies.

Away from the major industrial parts of the region, the North East has a
diverse landscape, stretching from Northumberland\'s agricultural land through protected grasslands and moorlands to over 200 miles of outstanding coastline.

The region has two designated World Heritage Sites (Durham's Cathedral and Castle, and Hadrian's Wall), underlining its historical and cultural significance.
