PRESS RELEASE

MICHAEL HOWARD TO LAUNCH
NE CONSERVATIVE EUROPEAN CAMPAIGN

Conservatives Putting the North East First in Europe

Conservatives in the North East will officially kick off their European election campaign on Monday 10th May with a visit from Michael Howard MP, the leader of the Conservative Party. There will be a press launch of the North East campaign at the War Memorial on the Promenade, Whitley Bay, NE26 1LQ at 10:00am. Michael Howard will also highlight the successful Council regeneration in the area by visiting the shopping mall development on Park Avenue and go on a walkabout in the shopping centre of Whitley Bay. Michael Howard will be accompanied by the three North East Conservative candidates - Martin Callanan MEP, Jeremy Middleton and Amanda Vigar.

Speaking ahead of the launch Martin Callanan said:

'It is a great pleasure to welcome Michael Howard to the North East to launch our regional campaign. Conservatives in the European Parliament have a strong record of fighting fraud, standing up to more and more red tape, and showing how unnecessary regulations are negatively impacting on local businesses. A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for supporting North East jobs and businesses.'

'We will also be emphasising our opposition to the proposed EU constitution that will transfer major powers from the North East to Europe. People in this region have been let down by Labour MEPs who have spent their time fighting for Europe in the North East. A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for putting the North East and Britain first.'
